Answers
- You may make a request to have your password emailed to you here.
- ViaSubscription handles this and you can update with your account here.
- Canceling is easy as sending an email to support@thethingquarterly.com saying you wish to cancel with your name and account number. Please remember that THE THING is non-refundable and that you will not be reimbursed for pending subscriptions.
- Please remember that THE THING will in most cases be hand made and will take some time to create, package and mail. In many situations we will need to send it out via batch production and mailing. For instance, Issue #1 (which is a very exciting project, but also a very labor intensive one) will go out in three batches: August 13th, September 17th, and October 26th. Please be patient with. We will work hard to get your THING out as close to the mailing date as possible.
But having said all of that, if you think you are missing an issue of THE THING, please contact us at support@thethingquarterly.com. Be sure to explain your situation and then provide us with a good contact number. Will or Jonn will get back to you as soon as they can. - Back issues of THE THING are available only as long as inventory lasts. We do not make new issues once the cycle is closed. To check and see if there are any back issues for the issue(s) in which you are interested, contact us at support@thethingquarterly.com
- The best way to speak to someone at THE THING is to send an e-mail to support@thethingquarterly.com, with your phone number and the reason that you’d like to speak with us. Will or Jonn will contact you within two days of receiving your e-mail ( most likely sooner ). It really is just the two of us running this, so it may take a bit of time to get back to you, but please be patient with us. You can also leave a voice mail message with our answering service (866) 878-9894 and will respond once we have received the message.
- Currently our subscription service provider does not offer this ( and we apologize ). However there is a way around it.
- Go to subscribe and create a new account ( if you already have an account, then you will have to create a new user name and password ).
- Make sure that the box “billing address is the same as shipping address” is not checked.
- Enter the gift recipient’s name in the “Address 1” field
- Enter their address in the remaining fields.
- Enter your credit card information. ( be sure that your billing address is correct )
- Click “update account” and then proceed to checkout.
- Make sure that you have logged out of your old account by clicking “log out”. If it is still holding onto your account information, close your browser down and then open it back up again. If it’s still not responding, please contact us at support@thethingquarterly.com and we will help you from there.
- The first thing you should do is log out of your account and then log back in, making sure to check that all your information is correct. If it is, then try checking out again. If for some reason it still gives you the same error message, please write it down and contact Will or Jonn at support@thethingquarterly.com. We will help you from there.
- This is one of those unknowns because THE THING will change from issue to issue and countries will regard different issues differently. So, it is best to assume that you will need to pay an import tax on the item. However, due to the low cost of the THE THING, each item will be valued at a quarter of the price for the year: $30. This should make for a relatively low import tax ( if the item is taxed at all ).
- No, we are only set up for annual subscriptions. We are like a typical periodical in that way.
- Like any periodical, there is no cutoff for subscribing. However the issue you start with, will depend on when you subscribe. For instance, the chance to subscribe for a full year starting with Issue 1 ends on October 26th. All of those who subscribe after this date will receive the issue cycle beginning with Issue 2 and ending with Issue 5.
- Our policy is that we do not issue refunds. Once you sign on, you sign on for the full year.
- Yes, we will exchange your damaged THING for an undamaged THING. But make sure you contact us ASAP, if you find your THING to be damaged.
- If you did not enter your address correctly, and your THING is returned to us, we will need to charge you again for shipping. This is not because we want to be mean, but because we will lose money if we have to ship to you twice. However, if it is the fault of the post office or even our own bungle, you will not be charged.
- No. THE THING is a periodical in the form of an object. Think of it as a magazine. The artists do not sign the object just as writers do not sign each issue of the periodical with which they are involved.
- No. While there are many hands involved in the making of each THING, they are not each individually created by the artist. We work very closely with the artists to create the object and text that they are envisioning, and from that we find a way to create multiples. Think of it as a periodical (which is what it is). There are many hands and minds involved in creating a periodical. THE THING is no different in this regard.
- No. THE THING is a subscription based periodical, just like a magazine. THE THING is open to all. However, just like a magazine, the subscription cycles will change. For instance those who sign up for THE THING once issue 2 has been released will begin with issue 2 and end with issue 5. This means that Issue 1 is closed and new subscribers cannot get issue 1.
